The Watch Challenge

I haven’t worn a watch since I was in high school. Why not? Oh, because I had a cellphone after that point and used it – as most of us do – as a traveling clock. I mean, why wouldn’t you.

The problem is that you get used to checking your phone all day. And as a self-proclaimed social media addict, I have to say it doesn’t help the situation. Once I check the time, I look to see if I’ve received any text messages and if there isn’t a notification, I open my phone anyway to see if I had a Facebook notification. No Facebook notification? Well, someone on Twitter must have mentioned me. No? How about Instagram, let me open up that app. And then I noticed it’s been so long that I have to check the time again. So you see, it’s a viscious cycle and a complete time waster.

If anything, this year I’m going to try to make more me time. Yes, yes, we’ve all said it. But at least I’m making an effort by sporting a watch, which means I have no excuse to pull out my phone. And I get a snazzy accessory. If someone needs me, I’ll get to them when I get to them. I was perfectly fine back in 2000 when I had to use a payphone to call my mother at her office via their 1-800 number to let her know I needed a ride home from school. (Seriously, I used all my change on vending machine snacks. Who carries change?)

So here we go. I’m wearing a spiffy new Charming Charlie blue and gold watch. (Click the photo to get the same one.) For now, anyway. And if I’m lucky, maybe I’ll branch out and get a few more just to spice things up (and so I won’t say, well this doesn’t match my outfit). So if you don’t hear from me immediately, do NOT get alarmed. I’m most likely okay, just not using my phone as a clock and trying to enjoy just a few more precious moments of my life.

Anyone up for the challenge? Join me! And show off your watches.
